I kid you not, a couple of days I got an email warning me that my IHG points would expire in the upcoming weeks. I thought, well this might be the one time I take advantage of PointsBreaks. Then all points and miles blogs went crazy reporting that IHG will now “enhance” the program.
Most of the time any changes to a loyalty program mean one thing: you will need more points/miles to get what you used to get. My issue with IHG is that together with Hilton, it has been nearly impossible to get any value from their loyalty program. Hotel-wise, IHG is easily the worst use of Chase UR points. I hope that with more points needed comes better availability of desirable hotels. In the past, most of the PointsBreaks hotels were places where I would not want to stay. If an strategically located Even, Indigo, InterContinental or Kimpton can be booked for 10,000-15,000 points a night with ease then this changes will be welcome with warm open arms.
