Back in July, we were in Rome when I got an email from Delta stating that their “best bonus offer ever” would be over within hours. Well, passing on that offer would not have been regrettable since it’s back, but this time it is actually a better deal. Instead of spending $4,000 in 4 months, the required spend is $3,000 in 3 months for the platinum. The gold version gives you 50,000 miles for spending $2000 during the first 3 months and an additional 10,000 if you spend another $1,000 within 6 months. The annual fee is waived the first year for the gold, but not the platinum. The cards also give you $50 and $100 credit on a Delta purchase during the first 3 months.
The biggest difference between these cards is that the platinum comes with 10,000 Medallion Qualifying Miles on top of the 70,000 SkyInches. It also gives you a companion pass on the on the account anniversary.
It seems that one of the only ways to get any value out of Delta SkyInches is to use them during their monthly “flash sales.” In my case, I’m interested in the platinum as a means of reaching some kind of status with Delta.
